Limerick Girl

Picture of girl’s face as a silhouette of broken glass

She’d only try drugs of one syllable,
And only gave payment in kind
Always found at the bar
With a drink you’d go far, yet,
Was always a girl on my mind

Her range, mostly men was expansive
But to a man, all had money to loan
When her shopping was paid
She lay down and got laid, then,
Rose early, crept out and drove home

She could swear with her father’s temper
In the ten different tongues she could choose
She’d remembered the list
That he’d used with his fists, so,
Was numb to the bile and abuse

The love of her life was a soldier
With a baggage that went to his core
And like daddy would do
Bust her face black and blue, though,
Would often just scream back for more

I asked her why she didn’t leave him
Said, ‘I know you think I’m just a whore
But true love is a lure
And I know there’s no cure, ‘cause,
With losers like you I’m just bored’

Just read your ‘a sort of masterpiece’ which is absolutely brilliant. I’ve posted a comment on there but my readers playing up, so I’ve no idea if it’ll show or not, so rather than post the same comment, I’ll stick it here and that way if anyone else reads this, they can pop along and enjoy it too!

Sorry about the late reply but I’ve been a bit unsure about what to do. First, thank you for the kind words and consideration, it means an awful lot to get any kind of feedback, and anything positive is a bonus! Sometimes it feels that you are scribbling away in the dark to yourself, which is about as logical as talking to yourself, so just getting a response at least alleviates that thought! When I first set up my site, I didn’t envisage it for anything else other than poetry, and there have been plenty of times when I have really wanted to make an unpoetic comment about something, but I don’t want to post anything other than poetry on the poetry page, which is where all new posts go. I could post onto a new area, but it wouldn’t get seen, so until I redesign the site, and call it ‘poetry&’ or something, I’m going to have to politely decline but say that I really appreciate the thought. My one aim, like most of us, is eventually to get published, (and ideally not have to pay for the privilege), but the one thing I have discovered since starting the site, is that there are an awful lot of good poets out there, including yourself, who have just as much right to be published, and I’ll probably have to settle for just being read a little by a few like minded poets. Thanks again for reading & best of luck with your award, Paul

That’s absolutely fine, your reason is very logical and understandable. I just wanted to let you know that yours is one of the best blogs I have come around so far. I will keep reading. And writing myself ofcourse. Have a great day.- chris
